Together with the charity Free Word, there are nine organisations resident at the Free Word Centre: Apples & Snakes, Article 19, Booktrust, English PEN, Free Word, Index on Censorship, The Arvon Foundation, The Literary Consultancy, The Reading Agency and Dalkey Archive. The first eight are founder organisations, part of the original consortium which helped evolve the concepts behind the Free Word Centre. They have developed close links with each other and some exciting ideas for collaborative work. They will play an important part in events, conferences, debates, readings etc. They will also help attract to Free Word a diverse range of new associates and partners.

The Centre’s facilities will also be open to associates. These will include UK and international literary, literacy and free expression organisations and individuals, as well as writers and journalists. They will have full access to the Free Word web site to seek collaborations, network, stay in touch, and profile themselves and their work. They will also be able to use the Free Word base as a ‘members club’ with its wireless internet and a secure meet and greet area. They will receive smart card access, café discounts and use of the meeting rooms, lecture theatre, and hot desks at a 30% discounted rate.
