International Translation Day 2011
Presented by English PEN , London Book Fair’s Literary Translation Centre & its partner organisations and the European Commission
Fri 30 Sep 2011, 8:00am
Free Word Lecture Theatre
How can we popularise literature in translation? Are we getting anywhere? What can we learn from the success of other art forms, such as music?
Join English PEN and other leading translation organisations for a full day of events focused on literary translation. We will be hearing about successful initiatives that have flourished since last year’s International Translation Day; translator mentoring and residency programmes, UK school translation schemes, and more. This year we also welcome Charles Hazelwood, British conductor and passionate advocate for broadening access to orchestral music. Charles believes in bringing the music he loves to the widest possible audience. Sound familiar? Our afternoon workshops are a chance for you to discuss important issues facing literary translation today; the role of schools and universities in generating future translators, supporting the translation of minority languages, and the power of literary festivals. We’ll also have a session dedicated to the new PEN translation fund, opening next year. Click this link to view this year's programme.
Tickets: Full day entry £20; £10 concessions, including light lunch and refreshments.
